The Gingerbread Pirates is a not-to-miss Christmas book. It appeals to the boys – because pirates – but girls love it equally as much! This is the Christmas book that gets the most love from the kids in our home.
It’s the story of a gingerbread pirate captain and his adventures on Christmas Eve trying to save his cookie crew from being eaten by Santa Claus. The illustrations are magical and the story teaches lessons of curiosity, courage and sticking up for your friends.
It’s such a favorite, that we’ve decided to make a treasure map to go along with the book! The landmarks on the map are things that you would find in most homes: a couch, a shower, a bed, a fridge, and a table. You can hide whatever you’d like in each of the locations and then give your children this map to help them find them! Even the littlest will be able to help with this hunt. But if you want to make it harder, you could hide a riddle they have to solve at each of the locations, as well.
After we read The Gingerbread Pirates together, we’ll be using our treasure map to find candy decorations…for making our own gingerbread pirates! The map leads them right back to the kitchen table where we can start decorating as soon as they’ve found all the goodies and sprinkles. My kids saw me drawing the map and they are super excited to get searching as soon as possible. We hope yours will be, too!
